Due to the unscheduled closure of Chapman’s Peak Drive the firing in honour of the visit of crew members of HMS RICHMOND (then currently in Simon’s Town) was changed from East to West Fort at York Point next to “Fish on the Rocks” and the “Harbour Market”.
West Fort’s guns were put through their paces by members of the crew of the British frigate HMS RICHMOND which was in Simon’s Town for maintenance before leaving for the Falklands later this month. Our visitors acquitted themselves well and became members of the “Honourable Order of Hout Bay Artillerymen.
These two pictures illustrate the scene a few days after the massive rains that caused the closure of Chapman’s Peak Drive. The Toll Concession area starts at No 1 Chapman’s but the mudslides came from the National Park. Who will fit the bill? Will Hout Bay get the blame once more?
