Heritage Assn Vice Chairman and Gunner, Chris Everett, places a wreath at East Forts Garden of remembrance in honour of Anne Murphy, immediate past madam Chairman of the Trust, who passed away suddenly on the 31st Oct 2013.
Derek Johnson, a close friend of the family delived this message below on behalf of Anne’s husband Terry. Who sadly was unable to be with us to deliver the tribute personally. Anne's death was completely unexpected; on Tuesday the 29th Oct she officiated at the Trust’s AGM and on Thursday morning we were all shocked by her sudden death.
Anne believed in contributing to enhancing traditional values, lifetime commitments to family and friends and to heritage. Anne loved the community life of Hout Bay. She was very active with several associations. She much appreciated the role of the Heritage Assn and its dedication to restoring and maintaining our historical life. She loved the pageantry and she was much looking forward to today's events.
The trustees past and present are Anne's friends, they got on so well together, always mixing business and banter.
I want you to know how much she loved your friendships and I want to thank you for your dedication to Heritage and above all I want to thank you for the happiness you brought to Anne.
A nation that turns its back on its history, the lessons and experiences of the past, good or bad, undermines the foundations of its future.
