Bo Kaap - Where does one draw the restoration line?

If you don’t use it you lose it! Many heritage sites have been preserved in such a way as to protect them but at the same time make them available to tourists from home and abroad usually for a modest fee. The Bo Kaap example of not only a viable business plan but also an example of community upliftment.

The Restoration of Bo Kaap

Clearly the interpretation

The restoration of the above buildings and many more has not only uplifted the entire area it has also encouraged  tourism which has begun to thrive over the last few years and brought economic benefits for the community and Cape Town. There is no doubt that many of the buildings would have been lost had the heritage restoration of the area not been encouraged. It was also a truly sixty year bonanza for some!

A nation that turns its back on its history, the lessons and experiences of the past, good or bad,  undermines the foundations of its future.
